10 Best Social Media Plugins for WordPress 2018

Looking for the best WordPress social media plugin to boost your social traffic and get more followers?

Pretty much every WordPress site has some type of social buttons – for a good reason, too. Those social buttons make it easy for visitors to share your content on social media and/or follow your social media accounts.

That's a win-win – but there are a huge number of social media plugins to choose from…so how do you actually pick the right one?

That's what I aim to help with in this post! I've collected 10 of the best social media plugins. Now, I'm going to break them down for you. You'll learn:

  • Which social networks each plugin supports
  • Where you can position your buttons with each plugin
  • Other key features that might set the plugin apart

Let's dive in!

Easy Social Share Buttons for WordPress

A quick peek at the lengthy feature list should tell you that Easy Social Share Buttons for WordPress can do pretty much everything with social media and WordPress.

If you just want basic share buttons, that might be overkill. But if you want all the bells and whistles, you won't find many social media plugins that go this deep.

That depth of functionality is why it has over 24,500 sales at CodeCanyon and has maintained a 4.66-star rating on over 1190 reviews.

Button Placement Options

Easy Social Share Buttons for WordPress lets you pick from over 30 different default display positions, including:

  • Above/below content (or both)
  • Floating icons, either above, below, or on either side
  • Top or bottom bar
  • Post share bar
  • On media (like images)
  • As a popup
  • Lots more

MashShare

If you love the style of the social share buttons at Mashable, you're probably going to love MashShare.

As you can probably guess from its name and that intro, MashShare helps you add Mashable-style social share buttons to your WordPress site.

But it's not just about the style – there are also some deeper features going on underneath, which helps explain why this plugin is active on over 80,000 sites and has a stellar 4.8-star rating on over 892 reviews at WordPress.org.

Button Placement Options

In the free version, MashShare lets you add icons:

  • Above/below content (or both)
  • Manually with a shortcode or PHP tag

You can also get more positions with premium add-ons, like a floating sidebar or sticky sharebar.

mashshare is one of the best social media plugins

Social Networks Supported

In the free version, MashShare only supports Facebook and Twitter.

If you want more social networks, the paid Mashshare Social Networks Add-on adds support for:

  • Google+
  • Pinterest
  • Reddit
  • LinkedIn
  • WhatsApp

Plus various other smaller networks.

Other Key Features

I'll note when a feature is paid:

  • Share Counts – display your overall share counts just like Mashable.
  • HTTP → HTTPS share count recovery
  • Fake share count – I don't find this feature honest, but you can display fake share counts if you want. The fake counts are generated by running a multiplier against the number of characters in your post's title to keep them random.
  • Select and share – let users share specific parts of your text, just like on Medium (paid)
  • PageViews – display page views just like Mashable (paid)

Price: Free version at WordPress.org. Paid add-ons are ~€19.95 each.

Button Placement Options

Any widgetized area on your site. Again, everything happens via the plugin's included widget.

Final Thoughts On These Social Media Plugins

Honestly, all of these plugins offer some unique feature or styling twist, so I can't recommend just one.

In general, I'd say that Easy Social Share Buttons or Social Warfare premium have the deepest feature lists.

Monarch is an awesome option if you're already an Elegant Themes member (or want to be). And AddToAny and AddThis have those cool universal share buttons that give users access to hundreds of networks.

Beyond that – consider the style and placement options that you want, because one of the other plugins still might be a better option depending on your needs. For example, Sassy Social Share and Ultimate Social Media have some unique style options.

Now over to you – have you tried any of these social media plugins? Which one would you recommend?
