How to Add Video to a Product Gallery in WooCommerce

Looking for ways to add video to a product gallery on your WooCommerce site?

Adding product videos to your WooCommerce store is a great idea. Videos can be used to quickly convey key information about a product and encourage potential customers to make a buying decision.

While WooCommerce doesn’t offer a native feature to add videos to your product galleries, you can use third-party plugins and themes to do just that.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to embed videos on your WooCommerce product pages using either the Merchant Pro plugin or the Botiga theme.

Why Add Product Videos to Your WooCommerce Store

When it comes to eCommerce, videos can highlight the benefits of a product and show tangible ways in which it will improve a customer’s life. Seeing a product in action is compelling and will help you reach more customers and drive more sales.

Your visitors will spend more time watching videos on your store. Google trusts websites with higher dwell times, so adding videos to your product pages can help boost your store’s search engine rankings.

Where to Add Videos in a WooCommerce Store

There are two main locations in your WooCommerce store where you can add videos to increase user engagement:

  1. single product pages
  2. shop catalog & archive pages

In the following sections, I’ll show you how to add videos to both of these areas.

As I mentioned in the introduction, I’ll use the Merchant Pro plugin and the Botiga theme to show you how to add videos to your WooCommerce store.

That said, you don’t have to use both tools. You only need either Merchant Pro or Botiga to add videos to your store. However, I recommend installing both and reaping the benefits of two dedicated WooCommerce tools to grow your store.

Merchant is a WooCommerce plugin that offers 40+ powerful modules designed to boost sales and enhance the customer experience. These include Frequently Bought Together, Free Gifts, Sticky Add to Cart, Product Video, and more.

Merchant offers two versions: a free version and a premium version called Merchant Pro.

You can access a few modules using the free plugin, but to get all 40+ modules (including the Product Video module), you’ll need the Pro plugin. So let’s start by installing Merchant Pro.

1. Install and Activate the Merchant Pro Plugin

Merchant Pro is a premium plugin compatible with all WordPress themes. After purchasing, you can download it from your welcome email or the Downloads tab in your aThemes account.

You can install and activate the plugin by going to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin in your WordPress admin area.

Upload the plugin by selecting the Choose File option, then hit the Install Now and Activate buttons:

You can refer to the quick start guide for more on getting set up with Merchant Pro.

2. Enable the Product Video Module

After installing the two plugins, you should see a Merchant option appear on your WordPress dashboard. Click the Merchant menu, go to Improve Experience, and select the Product Video module.

Inside the module, click the blue Enable button to activate the module on your WooCommerce store:

3. Add Videos to a Product Page

Once you have enabled the Product Video module, it’s time to add videos to your product pages.

Open any of your product pages from the Products → All Products menu, then scroll down to the Merchant Product Options → Product Video settings.

Toggle on the Enable Video Gallery option to add a video to your product gallery.

Then, proceed to add the video by either inserting the URL of an online video or uploading a video from your computer:

merchant enable video gallery

Next, set the position and aspect ratio of the video.

I recommend showing the video before the image gallery and keeping the aspect ratio as default or setting it to Auto:

You can also replace the product featured image that appears on the Shop catalog and other archive pages with a video. To do so, toggle on the Enable Featured Video option.

Then add the URL of the video in the Featured Video URL option. If you want to start playing the video automatically, turn on the Autoplay option (however, note that this can harm the user experience for some users):

merchant enable featured video

When the settings are configured, scroll up the page and click the Update button to save your settings.

Be sure to check the video on your product page:

4. Configure the Global Settings in the Product Video Module

To configure your product videos globally, open the Product Video module from your Merchant dashboard and scroll down to the Settings section.

There are two options:

  • Autoplay: It sets the videos in the product galleries to start automatically.
  • Aspect ratio: It sets the aspect ratio for all videos appearing in any of your product galleries. You can override this option from the individual product pages (see Step 4 above).

Be sure to click the Save button on top of the page to save your new settings:

That’s it. You now know how to add videos to your WooCommerce product galleries using the Merchant Pro plugin.

Botiga is a sleek and professional WooCommerce theme, perfect for highlighting your products with its clean, minimal design.

Botiga has a free and a premium version. The free version is a theme while the premium version, which extends the free theme, is a plugin.

To add a video to your product galleries, you need the premium Botiga Pro plugin.

1. Install and Activate the Botiga Pro Plugin

Purchase the Botiga Pro plugin and download it to your computer.

Then go to Plugins Add New Add Plugins and select the Upload Plugin option to upload the plugin to your WordPress site.

Next, click the Install Now and Activate buttons to activate the plugin:

2. Import a Botiga Starter Site (Optional)

Starter sites are pre-built designs, including pages, content, and configurations, that can be imported into your WordPress site with the click of a button.

While it’s not mandatory, importing one of Botiga Pro’s starter sites can give your store a sophisticated look and help establish trust with potential customers. Not to mention saving you countless hours designing your site from scratch.

To import a demo site, go to Botiga Starter Sites in your WordPress admin area, preview the sites using the Preview buttons, and click the Import button to import the site of your choice into your WooCommerce store:

As you click the Import button, a popup will appear on the screen with the content that will be imported to your website.

You can also deselect the elements you don’t want to import (if any):

It’ll take a few minutes for the import process to complete. Once it’s over, open the frontend of your site and check your new design.

3. Enable the Product Video & Audio Module

To enable the Product Video & Audio module, go to Botiga → Do More With Botiga Pro → Product Video & Audio and click the Activate link:

To add videos to your product galleries, go to Products All Products, and edit the product you want to add a video to.

Once the product admin page opens, scroll down to the Botiga Product Options section:

In the Featured Video tab, toggle on the Enable Video Gallery option, and enter the URL of the video you want to add to the product page.

You can add a video from an online video hosting site such as YouTube, Vimeo, or Dailymotion. Alternatively, you can upload a video from your computer to your WooCommerce store.

Next, you need to set the position of the video (before or after the product gallery) and the aspect ratio (i.e. the video’s width:height ratio). If you’re not sure what aspect ratio to choose, select the auto option and let the theme decide which aspect ratio is best suited for your WooCommerce store:

You can also add a featured video (that will replace your featured image) to your product page. The featured video will show up on your Shop catalog and archive pages, too.

To add a featured video, toggle on the Enable Featured Video option, and enter the URL of the video.

You can also toggle on the Autoplay option if you want the start the video automatically:

botiga enable featured video

When you are done, scroll up the page, click the Update button, and check your product page to see what the videos look like on the frontend of your site.

That’s all, folks. You now know how to add product videos to your WooCommerce store using Botiga Pro.

Our Recommendations

Adding videos to your WooCommerce product pages is a good way to grab your customers’ attention and convince them to buy your product.

Since WooCommerce doesn’t have a native feature to add videos to product pages, you’ll need to use a third-party tool such as Merchant Pro or Botiga Pro.

The Merchant Pro plugin is compatible with all WordPress themes, while the Botiga Pro plugin is only compatible with the free Botiga WooCommerce theme.

Here’s how to choose between the two:

If you are happy with your current WooCommerce theme but want to expand it with advanced eCommerce features, opt for the Merchant Pro plugin.

If you are unhappy with your current theme and want to replace it or you’re setting up a new site, install the Botiga theme and the Botiga Pro plugin. You can also add Merchant Pro to access the extra features it offers.

Finally, if you already have the Botiga theme installed, add the Botiga Pro plugin to your website.
