  1. I’m looking for an event calendar for my radio station which for monthly events counts days not weeks. So for example in February 2018, the first Wednesday is the 7th. For some strange reason, some calendars count Wednesday 7th as in the second week, which doesn’t work for a radio station with a monthly schedule like mine.

The calendar on my existing [Joomla] site works that way, but I’m struggling to find a WP one that does.
    Can anyone help please..

  2. Great post. Thanks @Joe.

I have used The Events Calendar on numerous websites but have recently begun using EventOn a lot more. I wil check out the other premium calendars you mention above.

As someone who is involved in displaying a lot of events for myself and my clients I still don’t feel that anyone has nailed it when it comes to a really usable, beautifully styled out of the box, Events plugin.

    1. I would not recommend the events calendar and would further definitely say it’s not well styled out of the box, like at all.

The PRO version doesn’t even have a horizontal display out of the box.

$89 and you have to immediately start coding just to get a horizontal layout.

      1. I agree. I also purchased their PRO version and found it to be utterly useless and then had to claim refund. I am looking for a plugin that will allow attendees to view their individual schedule. I still couldn’t find a plugin that helps me do that.

    1. Timely doesn’t play by the rules. They garble up the open source code to disable features unless you login to Timely and pay for upgrades. Aggressive sales are annoying. Calendar hasn’t changed in years. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the company go out of business.

      1. i agree. they charged me for csv import plugin in october but it’s not working now. and i doubt i will get my $ back. looking at The Event Calendar… sigh more money though to get the csv import feature. ugh

      2. Timely used to have alot of free features balanced with alot of paid features. Most features have moved to paid, they are the most expensive calendar now, and they keep increasing the price every few months for the SAME feature! Persistent cutting back value and increasing price – I am out!

  3. The Time.ly calendar keeps getting rebuilt and is getting worse with every (even more buggy) version. I had to do a full migration twice before I finally gave up on Timely and refused to do a third migration. They also keep cutting back free features and making users pay for them.

  4. I was contacted by a community group that would like to make the their WP page a bit more user friendly by adding a calendar with events and meeting dates on it. I believe the simpler the better. Can anyone advise as to the best calendar plug-in for that scenario? Thanks in advance.

    1. The free Timely wordpress plugin works fine. I use it for two community groups. But I wouldn’t pay for any upgrades. The company seems to have been going through a lot of changes lately and hasn’t got its act together.

  5. I was using Time.ly and only paid $59 last year. I had the calendar, ticketing and the reports were really great. Then I find a $320 charge on my card for this next year. Wasn’t able to get a response or get in touch with anyone, so had to dispute the charge. They removed my calendar once that was done.
What I need is another calendar for posting events, registration, and a report showing who has registered. Looks like EventOn might be the solution. Any suggestions?

  6. To be honest I think the Modern Tribe Event Calendar is overrated.

It is hard to use and difficult to customize.
The support docs are poorly documented (try finding out how to use shortcode, there are like 30 docs on it. I can never find what I want).
And the overall design is just not that good looking.

I don’t know why everyone thinks this plugin is so great. It is expensive, clunky, ugly and hard to use. There are so many better plugins out there.

    Just my opinion.
